The Wizards were founded in 1961 as the Chicago Packers. They played in Chicago for two seasons before moving to Washington, D.C., in 1963 and changing their name to the Bullets. The Wizards changed their name to the Wizards in 1997.
The Wizards have made the playoffs 47 times, including two NBA Finals appearances in 1978 and 1979. They won one NBA championship, in 1978.
The Wizards have had many great players over the years, including Earl Monroe, Elvin Hayes, Wes Unseld, Michael Jordan, Gilbert Arenas, and Bradley Beal. Monroe is the Wizards’ all-time leading scorer. Hayes is a two-time NBA MVP. Unseld is a two-time NBA Finals MVP. Jordan is considered one of the greatest basketball players of all time.
